At St. Petersburg State University, the results of the contest “visiting professorship named after Gabriel Lamé” for the year 2018 were announced. The winner is the professor of the University Paris 7 Andrzej Zuk.

 

The Lamé chair (visiting professorship) is a joint initiative of the French Embassy in the Russian Federation and the Saint-Petersburg State University. Its aim is to reinforce the scientific relations between the French and Russian mathematical communities.The chair is held by a mathematician employed by a French public institution. Preference is given to candidates whose work unites the depth of theoretical research and an emphasis on applications.

A French mathematician, a recognized expert in the field of geometric group theory and spectral graph theory, will spend three months at the Chebyshev Laboratory.

Professor Andrzej Zuk will give a series of lectures on the results of his research and organize several seminars. At the end of his stay at St. Petersburg University, the French mathematician organizes an international conference, which will be devoted to the topics of his scientific works.
